Caregiver / Personal Care Assistant

Role Overview:
Caregivers and Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) provide essential non-medical support to elderly individuals, people with disabilities, or those recovering from illness or surgery. They help clients maintain independence, dignity, and comfort in their homes or care facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting

  • Support with mobility and transfers (e.g., from bed to wheelchair)

  • Provide companionship and emotional support

  • Help with meal preparation, feeding, and special diets

  • Light housekeeping duties such as laundry, tidying, and sanitation

  • Monitor and report changes in client’s health or behavior

  • Medication reminders (non-clinical administration only)

  • Escort clients to appointments or errands when needed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)

  • Completion of a state-approved caregiver or personal care assistant training program (if required by state regulations)

  • CPR and First Aid Certification (preferred or required)

  • TB test clearance and background check

  • Prior experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities (recommended)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping others

Work Settings:
Caregivers may work in private homes, assisted living facilities, residential care homes, or nursing facilities depending on client needs and placement assignments.
